# reMarkable handwriting to text: on the tablet and into Word

To convert reMarkable handwriting to text, open the page, tap the Document settings icon and tap Convert to text, and the tablet creates a new page with typed text[1]. Connect to Wi-Fi and log in to your reMarkable account first[1]. For an editable Word file of a whole notebook, email it to yourself as a PDF and upload it to LoreAI.

## How to convert to text on a reMarkable

1. **Connect and log in.** The tablet needs Wi-Fi and your reMarkable account[1].
2. **Open the handwritten page.** A notebook, an ebook or a PDF you wrote on[1].
3. **Tap Document settings.** Then tap Convert to text in the menu that opens[1].
4. **Open the new page.** reMarkable creates a new page with the typed text and leaves your handwritten page unchanged[1].

There is a second way. Select handwriting with the Selection Tool and tap the handwriting conversion icon, the lowercase letter A. reMarkable says this swaps the handwriting for text on the same page instead of keeping it[1]. To convert several pages, long-press them in Page Overview and tap Convert[1].

## Does reMarkable convert to text need Connect?

On the tablet, reMarkable's steps ask for Wi-Fi and a logged-in account[1]. A Connect subscription is mentioned for converting notes in the desktop app and for editing in the mobile and desktop apps[1].

- **Recognized**: Block letters and cursive handwriting[1]
- **Supported**: Bullet points and some smiley faces[1]
- **Not converted**: Symbols such as math notation, and diagrams[1]
- **Sending**: By email as a PDF, PNG or inline text, or to Google Drive or Dropbox[1]

## Turn a reMarkable notebook into Word

Convert to text gives you text on the tablet. To get a Word document you can edit on a computer and share, start from a PDF of the notebook.

1. **Send the notebook as a PDF.** reMarkable sends notes by email as a PDF, or uploads them to Google Drive or Dropbox[1].
2. **Upload the PDF to LoreAI.** The free tool here reads page 1. The [LoreAI app](https://www.loreai.org/app) reads every page.
3. **Open the Word file.** Every page is typed out in order, with headings, lists and tables kept as Word headings, lists and tables.

This also suits a PDF you annotated by hand, such as a marked-up contract or reading notes in a margin, since LoreAI reads the printed text and the handwriting together. Your first document is free, up to 3 pages and 3 MB. The app translates the notebook into one of 105 languages if you need it in English or another language.

## Other e-ink notebooks

The same export and upload route works for the [Kindle Scribe](https://www.loreai.org/kindle-scribe-handwriting-to-text) and [Supernote](https://www.loreai.org/supernote-handwriting-to-text). For any handwritten PDF, see [handwritten PDF to text](https://www.loreai.org/handwritten-pdf-to-text).
