# How do I translate a screenshot?

To translate a screenshot, upload the PNG or JPG, choose your language and download the result. Google Translate's Images tab gives back a translated picture or the text to copy[1], which is enough for a quick chat message. For a form, worksheet or web page you want to keep, LoreAI reads the screenshot and returns an editable Word file in your language.

## Which screenshot translator fits what is on your screen?

Pick the tool by what you will do with the translation. Reading it once on the spot needs an overlay on your phone. Replying, filling in or keeping it needs text you can edit.

- **A chat message**: Live Text on iPhone or Google Lens on Android translates the text of the screenshot[2][3]
- **An app or game screen**: DeepL's desktop apps have a screen capture tool that translates any part of the screen[4]
- **A foreign form or web page**: LoreAI returns the whole screen as a Word file, with tables and fields in their original order
- **Many screenshots**: Join them into one PDF with the [JPG to PDF tool](https://www.loreai.org/jpg-to-pdf) and upload it to LoreAI once

## How to translate a screenshot with LoreAI

1. **Save the screenshot.** PNG, JPG or a PDF of several captures. Crop away menus and keyboards you do not need.
2. **Enter your email at the top of this page.** The 6-digit code we send opens LoreAI with English set as the target. Your first document is free, up to 3 pages and 3 MB.
3. **Upload it and pick the target language.** Choose OCR + Translate. LoreAI detects the language on the screen and translates into any of 105 languages.
4. **Download the Word file.** The translation opens in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, ready to copy into a reply or fill in.

## Translate a chat screenshot

A screenshot of WhatsApp, WeChat, LINE or Discord is a column of short messages. LoreAI keeps every message on its own line in the order it was sent, so you can still see who said what after translation. Names written in Chinese, Arabic, Cyrillic or another non-Latin script come back in Latin letters, and times, prices and phone numbers stay exactly as they were.

For one bubble on your phone, Live Text is quicker. Open the screenshot in Photos, tap the Live Text button, then tap Translate and choose a language[2].

## Translate app and game screenshots

Settings pages, error messages, item descriptions and quest logs often only exist in Japanese, Korean or Chinese. On Android, open Google Lens, tap Translate, choose the capture under Screenshots or All images and set the input and output languages[3]. The Google Translate app does the same from Camera, then All Images, and works offline once you download the languages[5].

On a computer, DeepL's Windows and Mac apps capture part of the screen and translate it[4]. The free plan translates 1500 characters a day[4]. A long menu, a full settings screen or a patch note is easier as a document, because LoreAI keeps lists as lists and headings as headings.

## Translate a foreign form or web page

A screenshot of a bank portal, a school website, a visa page or an online form carries labels next to values. LoreAI rebuilds that structure in Word, so each label stays beside its field and a table stays a table. You can then type your answers into the English version and keep it next to the original.

On a Mac, Preview translates a selection too. Drag over the text, Control-click it, choose Translate and pick a language[6].

LoreAI is not a certified translation service. When an office asks for a certified translation of a document, the [guide to getting a certified translation](https://www.loreai.org/how-to-get-a-certified-translation) explains who signs one.
