What Doclingo does, what is free and when LoreAI fits better

Doclingo is an AI document translator for PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, EPUB and image files that keeps the original layout and translates between 90+ languages[1]. Its free translation runs in a queue, and full translation of a scanned document needs paid VIP access[2]. LoreAI reads scans on every plan, including the free first document, and returns an editable Word file.

What Doclingo does

Doclingo translates whole files and tries to keep the page as it was. Its homepage lists PDF, DOCX, TXT, PPTX, XLSX, EPUB, SRT and PNG or JPEG images, plus arXiv papers and comic PDFs, and says it supports 90+ languages[1]. It offers a bilingual output with the original and the translation side by side[1].

For images it has a separate tool. You upload a PNG, JPG or WEBP image, and Doclingo draws the translated text back into the picture in the original position, size and color, then lets you download it as an image or PDF[1]. That works well for a menu, a poster or a product photo you want to look the same in another language.

To translate a document, you open Translation, choose Free Translation, upload the file, choose the target language and press Start Trans. Doclingo detects the source language, including documents in several languages[3].

Is Doclingo free?

Partly. Its help center says Free Translation allows up to 100 translations a day and 5 million free characters a month outside mainland China, and that free jobs wait in a queue with no guaranteed finish time[3]. Its membership page gives other numbers. A visitor gets 2 translations a day and files up to 50 MB, a registered user 3 a day and 100 MB, and Premium and Premium+ unlimited translations with files up to 500 MB[4]. We could not tell from either page which limit applies to which kind of translation.

Account
The homepage says free translation works without sign-up[1]. Guests register with an email address before they can download[5]
Page count
Unlimited on every tier, per the membership page[4]
Prices
Premium $7.76 a month or $52.20 a year, Premium+ $10.44 a month or $96.65 a year, in US dollars on November 2, 2026[4]
Storage
Free registered users 7 days, Premium 30 days, enterprise 90 days, guests not saved[5]

The yearly plans start with a 3-day free trial and renew automatically at the yearly price[4]. The homepage FAQ gives a different retention figure for members, 3 months, and says free users' files are deleted within 7 days[1]. If storage matters to you, ask Doclingo which figure is current.

Can Doclingo translate a scanned PDF?

Yes, on a paid plan. Its help center says the Translate Images feature lets VIP users translate scanned PDFs and image-based documents, and that free users can only preview limited content[2]. You pick VIP, upload the file, choose an engine such as Doclingo, GPT or Gemini, and leave Trans. IMG switched on[2]. Stronger engines use more characters, from 0.5 times for Light to 6 times for Reasoning[2].

LoreAI runs OCR on every upload, on the free first document too. A scanned birth certificate, a photographed transcript or a faxed contract goes through the same steps as a typed PDF.

Does Doclingo give you Word or PDF?

It depends on what you upload. For a PDF, Doclingo offers the translated document, a bilingual version with the original on the left and the translation on the right, or the translated text as Markdown[5]. For a Word or Excel file you get the translated version or a bilingual version sentence by sentence[5]. Its help pages do not list a Word download for a PDF.

LoreAI always returns a Word file. A form on a scan comes back as Word tables, with headings and lists in the original order, so you can correct a name or a date and print it.

Which one fits your document?

  • Pick Doclingo for a long typed PDF, a slide deck, an EPUB or subtitles, where you want the translated file to look like the original page.
  • Pick Doclingo's image tool for a picture that should stay a picture, such as a menu or a poster.
  • Pick LoreAI for a scan or a phone photo of a certificate, a transcript or a form, when you need an editable Word file to check and hand in.
  • For a typed PDF you only need to read, Google Translate may be enough.

Neither tool certifies a translation. If an office asks for a certified one, a person who knows both languages checks the file and signs a statement. See how to get a certified translation.
